Soo Hoyo explores a mother’s fixation on controlling her daughter and keeping her within the expectations she believes will protect her. As Hoyo Luul focuses on Filsan, dangers around her begin to go unseen. The film explores family, grief, cultural expectations, and the conversations we often avoid.
Following the screening, Gavin Sheppard will sit down with writer and director Elwaad Osman for a conversation about the making of Soo Hoyo, her creative journey, and her home city that inspired the film.
