This educational session will be a deep dive on the electrical service including the interconnecting of other power production sources
About this Event

The electrical service is one of the most critical components of an electrical installation. It establishes the connection between the utility electrical system and the premises wiring system, providing the foundation for safe electrical power distribution. As electrical systems evolve to incorporate solar photovoltaic systems, energy storage, generators, and other distributed energy resources, understanding the requirements governing electrical services and interconnected power sources has become increasingly important.

Join the West Virginia Chapter of the IAEI for a comprehensive, one-day educational seminar exploring the National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements governing electrical services and alternative energy interconnections.

This interactive program will take participants on a deep dive into NEC Article 230 and its relationship to other critical Code requirements, including Articles 225, 250, 408, 705, and 706. The seminar will explore service conductors, service equipment, disconnecting means, overcurrent protection, grounding and bonding, service configurations, and the challenges presented by interconnected power production sources.

Through practical examples, equipment illustrations, Code references, and real-world installation scenarios, attendees will develop a stronger understanding of how to design, install, inspect, and evaluate electrical services in both traditional and emerging electrical power systems.

Who Should Attend: Electrical inspectors, electrical contractors, electricians, engineers, designers, utility representatives, facility professionals, and anyone involved in the installation, inspection, or design of electrical power distribution systems.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the fundamental requirements governing electrical services under NEC Article 230.
  2. Distinguish between service conductors, feeders, and branch circuits and understand their associated Code requirements.
  3. Evaluate service equipment configurations, including service disconnecting means, overcurrent protection, and equipment ratings.
  4. Apply NEC grounding and bonding requirements to service equipment and associated electrical distribution systems.
  5. Recognize acceptable service arrangements, including multiple service disconnects, multiple supplies, and service equipment configurations.
  6. Understand the NEC requirements associated with interconnected electric power production sources under Article 705.
  7. Evaluate how solar photovoltaic systems, energy storage systems, and generators interact with traditional electrical services.
  8. Identify common electrical service installation and inspection violations.

Key Logistics:

Lunch will be provided

IAEI CEU Credits will be emailed after the class to attendees. 7 CEU credits.
