Curated and hosted by Hastings' own Dr Who actor Matthew Waterhouse we end this year's TV Festival with two TV gems from master storytellers Graham Greene and John Le Carre.
Under the Garden, the TV adaption of one of Graham Greene's short stories, comes from the series Shades of Greene which has never been released on DVD or Blu-ray. Wilditch, a restless world traveller, returns to his childhood home diagnosed with terminal cancer. There, memories return of an experience that happened when he was just a boy, recollections of a magical, haunting event which took place under the garden. Whether he had made it up, dreamed it, or it really happened, the event was significant in sending him on a lifetime quest.
End of the Line, is one of one of John le Carré’s Armchair Theatre episodes, his only original work for television, and subsequently almost erased from history. Shot almost entirely as a single-set duologue inside an Edinburgh to London night train, it stars Ian Holm as an interrogator and Robert Harris as a suspected traitor.
