Wildfire and Homelessness intersect in an urgent and dangerous way. Come, learn, discuss, with an aim to finding solutions and taking action
About this Event

Wildfire and Homelessness intersect in an urgent and dangerous way. Join in a discussion where people with diverse ideas can reach consensus in a structured and safe way to come up with practical solutions to keep us all safer.

What we will do:

We will be divided into two groups based on our perspectives and the forum is aimed to help us come to some common solutions that we can present to Supervisor John Gioia in a follow up town hall meeting.

Why we need this:

After the devastating fires in Santa Rosa, Wild Cat Canyon, from El Sobrante to Berkeley, was assessed by researchers as one of the most dangerous fire locations in the entire Bay Area, given the great concentration of residents. El Sobrante and San Pablo have the highest number of homeless encampments each year who are creating camp fires in the dry brush. El Sobrante and San Pablo have more homeless people than other CCC cities. Fire travels faster up a hillside, and there are many eucalyptus trees, which burn quickly. There is a wind tunnel effect in this area. We will always have a steady flow of homeless, especially along San Pablo Dam Road, where there are stores to buy living supplies, as well as woods for encampments. In addition, they are humans and need sheltering, Gavin Newsom announced $12B of CA's surplus funds will go to address the homeless issue. Supervisor Gioia has been doing a good job with sheltering the homeless, and now with more budget he could do a better job with the support of community.

We will be using strategies from Braver Angels – an organization that brings people together across the aisle and from different starting points on specific issues.

All viewpoints are welcome, all participants will be afforded air time and respect and will do the same for others.

By the end of this forum, we will have concrete ideas and plans for next steps, including meeting with our Supervisor John Gioia.

The forum includes 30 min for lunch which will be provided!

We will have you select from 4 lunch options.

This event will take place outdoors for the most part.
