Based on a true story, EFFIE takes audiences to rural Georgia, where a Black woman finds herself at the center of a life-altering criminal case after the death of her husband. Accused of his M**der, Effie faces a judicial process shaped by the racial and social inequities of its time—forcing her to fight not only for her freedom, but to be heard in a system where justice is far from guaranteed.

At its heart, EFFIE is a story of resilience, injustice, compassion, and the extraordinary strength required to endure when the odds are overwhelmingly against you. Her story asks a timeless question: What does justice mean when the system itself is unjust?

EFFIE will screen at 6:00 PM on October 17, 2026, at the historic Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Immediately following the screening, writer / executive producer Ted Knight and director Bryan G Thompson along with cast members will participate in a live Q&A, taking audiences behind the film to discuss the remarkable real-life case that inspired the story, the process of bringing Effie's experience to the screen, and the upcoming feature film KINDNESS, currently in development.
