Why do brilliant inventions fail while seemingly ridiculous products become consumer sensations? In this highly interactive K–8 workshop, educators will use “Great Ideas That Failed” and “Bad Ideas That Succeeded” to explore consumer preferences, entrepreneurship, risk, reward, and the unpredictable variables that influence a product’s success. Through classroom-ready activities and an innovation challenge, participants will discover creative ways to integrate economics into STEM instruction while building students’ problem-solving, collaboration, and decision-making skills. Can they create a guaranteed consumer hit? Spoiler alert: They can’t—but they’ll have a wonderfully weird time trying!
