About this Event

Stained-glass artist and sculptor Edgar Phillips joins Meantime to talk about a remarkable career working with light, colour and one of our oldest artistic materials.

After a seven-year apprenticeship at the renowned John Hardman Studios, Edgar developed a distinctive practice combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. His commissions can be found in churches and private homes around the world, often bringing rescued antique glass together with his own new work.

In 2012, Edgar created his first pair of stained-glass wings - an idea that has since brought joy to thousands, from tiny chapels to the crowds at Glastonbury. His most ambitious work to date is the festival’s extraordinary 46-metre steel and stained-glass dragon, incorporating what Edgar describes as “a church worth” of glass.

He’ll share the stories, skills and inspirations behind his work, as well as plans for a major new exhibition at the Bishop’s Palace, Wells, in 2027.
