Edgar Allan Poe-Pourri! brings together five of Poe’s best-known works: “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Masque of the Red Death,” and “The Raven,” adapted for the stage and directed by Ian Patrick Corbett.Hosted by a delightfully macabre master of ceremonies, the production will combine Poe’s original words with theatrical storytelling, physical performance, narration, sound, lighting, and a healthy dose of gallows humor. A company of seven performers will conjure Poe’s eerie worlds with minimal scenery and props, inviting the audience’s imagination to supply some of the evening’s darkest details.
The result will be part Gothic storytelling, part old-fashioned horror show: playful and mischievous one moment, unsettling the next. Audiences can expect beating hearts, premature burials, deadly masquerades, ominous ravens—and perhaps a terrible pun or two along the way.
Edgar Allan Poe-Pourri! will be presented Saturday, October 10 at 7 p.m. at The Strand Theater, 136 Franklin Street, Watertown.
Tickets are $20 general admission, $18 discounted admission, and $15 for LTW members.
This production contains themes of death, murder, peril, and macabre imagery and may be frightening to younger children. Parental discretion is advised, and children under 5 will not be admitted.
