A ditch-loving ecologist with an unmatched local perspective of the Fens
About this Event

Dr Laurie Friday is a scientist and champion of the Fens, especially Wicken Fen.

Laurie has dedicated much of her career to understanding and protecting wetlands. As a freshwater ecologist at the University of Cambridge, her research and leadership have helped shape how we think about landscapes like the Fens, where nature, climate, farming and communities are all deeply connected.

Laurie works with the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Landscape Regeneration, helping bring scientists, farmers and conservationists together to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing the Fens today, from biodiversity loss to climate change. Together they are exploring how we can restore nature, manage water, store carbon and sustain food production in the Fen landscape for generations to come.

This talk is offered in partnership with Cambridge University's Centre for Landscape Regeneration. Please look out for more talks in our Fenland Folk: Heritage and Landscape series.

The talk will take place in the Conference Room on the 3rd Floor of Cambridge Central Library.

There is a lift to the 3rd Floor and accessible toilets on this level. For more information about accessibility and parking please visit Cambridgeshire Online | Cambridge Central Library
