Why- There are high rates of asthma and other air pollution related illnesses in the City of Buffalo and especially the East Side due to the high-way in such close proximity. There has been historic harm, redlining, disinvestment, and intentional poverty traps that have led to overall much lower rates of tree canopy on the East Side. This is not a local phenomena but across the US one can look at a satellite image specifically for tree canopy and predict where the wealthier and disinvested areas are. Trees has so many benefits, some of which are as follows- improve air and water quality, reduce flooding, reduce cooling and heating energy needs, increase property values, and improve the quality of life for people. Please come to take part in planting trees to be one small part to combat these problems! *If you can please bring a shovel, hard rake**.
There will be coffee, doughnuts, bagels, apples, water and lunch will be provided as well. The feeling of coming back 5 years later to see the tree you planted still growing and big is priceless! This really is an enjoyable day, come if you can, together we have planted over 1000 tree's in Buffalo, and re-tree has planted thousands over the city!
