About this Event
We’ll meet outside West Ealing Station at 11:00am and set off on a gentle two-hour walk through the area.
This guided stroll will take us through layers of West Ealing’s past and present — from historic routes and lost landmarks to the diverse, changing neighbourhood we see today.
Starting at the station, we’ll explore the immediate area of Stowell’s Corner before heading along Manor Road and crossing Jacob’s Ladder into what was once known as Stevens Town. From there, we’ll walk through the Green Man Estate towards the Broadway, recalling the coaching days when the Green Man Inn and the Half Way House served travellers along the Oxford Road.
We’ll also reflect on more recent changes — from former department stores to today’s mix of shops, businesses and community spaces. Along the way, we hope to include short visits to local places of interest such as the West Ealing mosque and the Assyrian Church (formerly St James), depending on availability.
South of the Broadway, in what were once orchards, we’ll pass through Deans Gardens — once known for donkey and pony races — before finishing with an optional stop at a local café.
A walk with a purpose
This is the second of three walks as part of the Your Voice Your Town project, funded by Ealing Council, supporting a shared goal: helping people feel safe, connected and welcome in their local area.
As we walk, we’ll gently reflect on questions such as:
- What makes a place feel safe or comfortable?
- Are there areas that feel less accessible or welcoming?
- How do different people experience the same space?
There’s no pressure to speak — you’re welcome to simply listen, observe and enjoy the walk.
What makes these walks different
Since 2016, Talking and Exploring has been bringing people together through walks that focus on both place and people.
For this project, we also:
- welcome local residents, newcomers, and visitors alike
- reach out to those who may feel less confident, isolated or new to the area
- connect with local businesses, community and faith groups where possible
- create space for conversation, shared experience and new connections
After the walk
We’ll finish with an optional café stop — a chance to rest, chat and continue the conversation in a relaxed setting.
You’ll also be invited to share your thoughts afterwards. Your feedback helps build a better understanding of how people experience Ealing and contributes to wider community insight.
