Join us Sunday, November 1, from 6–9 p.m. at John Taylor Park (200 N. 7th St.) for Día de Muertos, a Mexican tradition celebrating the lives and memories of loved ones who have passed.
This year's celebration honors **those who fed and nourished us**. We remember the people who cared for us, shared meals and traditions, and sustained our families and communities through acts of love.
We're proud to recognize Sunrise Project as this year's featured community partner, honoring their ongoing work to strengthen our community through food, education, and connection.
Altars and ofrendas throughout the park will honor loved ones who have passed, including a special community altar dedicated to those who nourished us. We're honored to welcome back internationally recognized artists Juan Hernández and Tonatiuh Hernández, who will collaborate on the creation of the main ofrenda.
Join us for hot chocolate, tamales, and pan de muerto (traditional Mexican sweet bread)!
🕯️ Contribute to the community altars: Drop-off opens at 10 a.m. so the altars are ready when the celebration begins at 6 p.m., and you’re welcome to add offerings during the event too. Bring photographs, flowers, notes, artwork, or other meaningful offerings to remember loved ones. Please don’t bring valuables, as we can’t guarantee their return.
🧡 This event is free and open to everyone. 🧡
Organized by Somos Lawrence and Lawrence Percolator. We're grateful to our volunteers, community partners, and for funding from the City of Lawrence and the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council, which helps make this celebration possible.
