About this Event
Join us for a glorious programme and tremendous music making by virtuoso violinist Alda Dizdari accompanied by LICO (London International Concert Orchestra) and conductor Alexander Walker, returning to St James' Piccadilly for another concert in her series of concerts in this venue. Alda and Alexander have worked closely together on many big projects, the latest, a recording with music by the brilliant British composer Robin Holloway with BBC National Orchestra of Wales launched in November 2025 to high acclaim. This evening features programme that is carefully selected to offer a perfect balance between the magical soundscape created by three giants of the classical music and especially symphonic genre.
The concert opens with Dvořák’s In Nature’s Realm, a radiant and uplifting celebration of the natural world. Rich in lyricism and glowing orchestral colour, the music evokes the beauty and energy of the countryside, setting a warm and inviting tone for the evening.
This is followed by Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, one of the most powerful and captivating works in the violin repertoire. Combining haunting Nordic atmosphere with moments of dazzling virtuosity, the concerto places the soloist at the heart of an intense musical landscape, moving from icy introspection to fiery brilliance, a much loved concerto by the virtuoso Dizdari. She made her debut in Canterbury Festival and took the British concert scene by storm performing it in Canterbury Cathedral back in 2008.
The programme concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, a sweeping and deeply emotional masterpiece shaped by the idea of fate. From its dramatic opening to its exhilarating final movement, the symphony delivers passion, tension, and ultimate triumph, bringing the concert to a thrilling and unforgettable close.
LICO have forged a strong relationship with conductor Alexander Walker and together they offer interesting programmes that continue to attract and educate audiences of all ages. The group of musicians is famous for bringing together some fabulous retired players from leading London orchestras with younger and enthusiastic musicians looking to get more orchestra experience. The result is a rich sound and friendly atmosphere that is sure to engage and delight the audience.
