About this Event
is the joyous collision of electronic wizard Thomas Myrmel and bassist / soundsmith Jonathan Nagel. Together they explore the farthest reaches of song form, deftly weaving melodies with sound walls and trilling frequencies; all to draw the listener into a sonic meditation sculpted by Myrmel's evocative lyrics.
The name Sealf derives from “salve,” a healing remedy, as well as “self” and “seal.” It cradles the breadth of this sonic endeavor: a collective awareness of the need for recovery, the sense of dis-ease on social, economic, ecological, and emotional levels, and the necessity of sealing old stories in order that something new can emerge.
Armed with words, voices, traditional musical instruments, and advanced electronic noise-makers, the duo strives for a synthesis of intuitive structures and the complex paradoxes of opportunity and ephemeral forces. Sealf is Myrmel and Nagel’s venture to create a powerful and immersive performance in a minimalist and intimate setting, with just two performers and a few instruments. There is no hiding here. Naked and raw, yet direct and honest, with a finger placed precisely on the wound — exactly where it hurts, and gradually heals.
