About this Event
This 1-hour long walking tour will highlight the places and people closely associated with Dundee's history and culture from the 18th Century to the present. Learn more about the creative economies, past and present, that have shaped the city. The tour starts at the Lemmings statue on Perth Road, moves through the city centre, taking in the site of the DMA Design offices, the influential computer games company that created Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto and became Rockstar Games, then the Desperate Dan statue, the site of Strathmore Art Studio, and the John Leng and DC Thomson buildings, and the Oor Wullie statue, all of which point to Dundee’s role as the Comicsopolis – the city of comics! The tour ends at the Vipre Lab at Abertay University where participants will have the chance to see a live demo of motion capture in the studio. The tour will delivered by Matthew Jarron and Professor Christopher Murray (University of Dundee), and Phillip Vaughan (Abertay University).
The tour is all on ground level over even surfaces. It is suitable for wheelchair users and there will be places to sit along the way. Normal footwear will be suitable. There is a wet weather plan in place and participants will receive an update on the day to inform them of any adjustments to the starting point or route due to weather.
