Master the DSMB: Confidence in DeploymentEssential Safety Skills for Every Diver
Don't let your first time deploying a buoy be in the middle of a heavy swell. A Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) is more than just a piece of nylon; it’s your lifeline to the surface, alerting boat traffic and shore cover to your location.
A Mandatory Standard
Please note that DSMB experience is a mandatory requirement for all boat and shore dives with our center. This reflects the global safety standards of any reputable dive operation worldwide—if you're heading into open water, you must be proficient in signaling your presence. This workshop ensures you meet that standard with confidence.
Why Attend?
This session is the perfect "try before you buy" opportunity, allowing you to test various equipment configurations before investing in your own.
Try the Tech: Experiment with different SMB styles and various Reels or Spools to see what fits your diving style.
Refine Your Trim: Master the "fill and release" technique while maintaining perfect neutral buoyancy.
Global Readiness: Prepare yourself for international travel where DSMB use is strictly enforced.
Workshop Schedule
Part 1: The Briefing
A concise presentation covering the "Why" and "How." We’ll discuss the physics of air expansion, different valve types, and how to avoid the common "Diver's Lift" (where the buoy takes you for a ride!).
Part 2: Deep Pit Practical
Head into the water for a hands-on session. You’ll practice deploying from depth, managing your line, and stowing your gear efficiently.
