Join us for an evening of Sisterhood in sound...Do you feel like you would love to get musical and play with others but don't know how - look no further!
My name is Carolina, I am mental health counsellor with 8 years of drumming experience who loves drumming and sisterhood (and cats!)...
I've felt called to start a women's drumming circle for a while and now it's finally here. My aim is to create a safe and welcoming space for women to come together and have some musical fun along the way, while fostering a sense of support and community.
No prior musical experience of any kind required - the aim is to experience the joy of making music together rather than learning an instrument to perfection. Although existing musical skills are also very welcome!
Drums will be provided - unless you have your own frame drum or djembe to bring along.
Some VEGAN drums available for those who would like to join but would not want to play with drums made with animal skin (limited availability - pls let me know if you need one).
This is roughly what we will aim to do in the time we have together, by uniting the power of frame drums and the energising fun of African drumming:
1: check in and nervous system regulation using the power of the frame drum. This will serve as a bit of grounding after a long day spent taking care of the million things women always take care of.
2: we then move to a more energising part, where we will learn the basics of African drumming on djembes and dun duns.
3: we will then return to the frame drum and perhaps a bit of group singing to bring ourselves back to a more grounded energy before we close.
Anyone is welcome to join in for as much or as little as feels comfortable - if at any point something pushes you out of your comfort zone - you can decide to take a pause and receive the music being made instead.
