Workshop Description
In all cultures, dreams have a key source of wisdom from ancient times. This workshop will explore the power of the dream from the shamanistic perspective to the modern urban Shaman, the expressive arts therapist. Using a Jungian expressive arts lens, Kate opens the doorway to the links of shamanistic practices to Jungian expressive arts therapy. Having this as a foundation, Kate will help us understand the personal and archetypal ways to understand the wisdom of the dream. Engaging in Jung’s Active Imagination, we can begin to see how arts and the body can be woven into dream exploration.

Kate Donohue, PhD, REAT (United States)
She is a licensed psychologist and a registered expressive arts therapist (REAT). She holds a Ph.D. with a degree in Counseling Psychology and has sustained an active private practice for five decades. She has also been teaching for 40 years at institutions internationally in Africa, China, South Korea, Malaysia, India, Canada, as well as many schools in the USA. She is a co-founder and board member of the International Expressive Arts Therapy.
Her practice as an expressive arts therapist is founded on a longstanding commitment to and appreciation for the arts. She is involved in visual arts and dance, having spent 25 years studying indigenous and ethnic dance forms, in particular West African and Afro-Cuban Dance. Her visual arts work in painting and drawing has helped her explore an interest in understanding the sacred feminine. She has a background in drama and poetics, and a great appreciation for music. Her involvement in arts and culture has made her own life richer by allowing her to map and understand her own inner terrain.
The scope of her work includes a private psychotherapy practice with individuals, adolescents, and couples. Additionally, she works in education and growth training, teaching a variety of classes and workshops to the public, graduate students, and other psychotherapy professionals. She also serves as a mentor to those already working in the field, providing supervision and continuing education credits to renew licensure.
