About this Event

About the Workshop
Join us and we mix Drawing and Music in the laboratory. In this hands-on session, we'll experiment with sound, shape, and composition, using body percussion, drawing, and collage to create our own visual scores. Inspired by experimental composers such as Cornelius Cardew, we'll translate sounds into shapes, rhythms into patterns, and melodies into striking visual artworks.
What to Expect
🔹 Sound Circle: Use your voice and body to create a variety of sounds.
🔹 Graphic Scores Exploration: Learn how artists and composers use alternative notation.
🔹 Creative Exercises: Translate sounds into shapes and build collaborative compositions.

Who is this for?
This workshop is open to all levels of experience—whether you're a musician, visual artist, or just curious about the relationship between sound and image. No musical training is required!

About Island Drawing Lab
Island drawing lab is a series of experimental workshops started by the dynamic duo, Danlu and Kelly. We are passionate about fostering collaboration between different disciplines, and make art fun and accessible.
Danlu is a visual artist and theatre maker. With a passion for unraveling the mysteries of the human experience, she uses art creation as a way to connect with people and unveil the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary. Danlu received her BA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in New York. She has performed devised theatre piece Of the Cut at Young Vic, and exhibited her paintings at Tate Modern.
Kelly is a portrait artist and educator with a background in architecture. Kellys paintings explore the themes of identity, memory, and relationships. Kelly studied at The Bartlett UCL and had Atelier training in Barcelona. Kelly has exhibited in numerous national galleries and is two time contestant on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year.

Guest Faciltator - Laoise Corrigan
Laoise studies classical flute at the Guildhall School of Music but has a special interest in contemporary music and alternative notation such as graphic scores. They particularly enjoy exploring the intersection between sound art and visual art using specotgrams (sound when in a graph form). Recently Laoise became a featured young artist with Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble, and performed their original work ‘Crepuscular’ for flute and electronics at Guildhall Science Music Festival 2024.
