About this Event
Participate in a bookstore-centered M**der-style kidnapping mystery where you are the detective. This mystery was custom-written for us by Hellen Heels and her team.
Paige Turner always put on great Storytime events, but was ready for something that would bring in more mature audiences and something more challenging. So she came up with an idea for an escape room that was tailored to a sleuthing audience and proposed the idea to Anitta Break, the store manager. The two drafted a survey and when they received positive feedback from the last M**der mystery party, Paige began carefully planning out her event.
In addition to her duties as the Children’s Buyer at the store, Paige also held a meeting with six book club friends. Once they put their escape room together, they decided to test it out on their friends to see how it would play out. Paige’s friends all said they enjoyed the escape room and that it was neither too easy nor too hard.
The night before the event, Paige was still setting everything up in the store when their coworkers left. Paige said they just had a few more finishing touches to add and would be heading home shortly. The next morning, when Anitta arrived, she found a note taped to the door. Her skin broke out in goosebumps as she read a series of ransom notes. Paige was nowhere to be found. Everything for the event was set up just as Paige had left it, but there was something different - a collection of clues were scattered throughout the store. As Paige’s co-workers turned the pages, they deciphered a message from the underlined words: ”Stop the event or you’ll never see your friend again. You’ll never figure this out, but you can try. I am watching.”
Players will receive a copy of the book Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore, which served as the inspiration for this M**der mystery!
