About this Event
Draftsmith NYC: The Half-Baked Club – Work-in-Progress Showcase is an in-person showcase for people interested in works in progress.
Finished work gets applause.
Unfinished work often needs something more useful: a room of thoughtful people willing to look closely and respond honestly.
Draftsmith NYC: The Half-Baked Club is a live creative gathering for writers, designers, illustrators, independent makers, freelancers, and multidisciplinary creators who want to explore work that is still taking shape.
The evening combines three formats:
Work-in-Progress Spotlights
Up to four confirmed creators present a project for approximately 5–7 minutes.
Examples may include:
- a short written excerpt;
- an early visual identity;
- an illustration series;
- a publication concept;
- a prototype;
- a creative campaign idea;
- a short film or media concept;
- another unfinished creative project suitable for public discussion.
Each presenter identifies one or two specific questions they want the room to consider.
Presentation selection is separate from ticket price.
Buying a higher-priced ticket does not improve the chance of being selected.
Constructive Feedback Labs
After the showcase, attendees move into small facilitated groups.
Feedback focuses on:
- what is clear;
- what creates curiosity;
- where the audience became confused;
- what may be worth testing next;
- what questions remain.
The goal is useful observation rather than ranking, judging, or rewriting someone else’s project.
Creative Social
The final portion opens into informal conversation among writers, designers, artists, freelancers, and independent creators.
Professional contact exchange and future collaboration are voluntary.
No collaborator, client, job, commission, publication, representation, or project outcome is guaranteed.
