Join archaeologist Dr Steve Sherlock at Land of Iron as he reveals the latest discoveries from the 2026 excavations at Street House. This year's programme of excavations focused on a site identified through a recent geophysical survey, where archaeologists have uncovered an enormous stone cairn believed to date from the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age.
The cairn spans around 17 metres and is made up of thousands of beach pebbles laid in several layers. Archaeologists have also identified burnt charcoal deposits around its edges and recovered more than 150 flint tools.
The discovery adds another fascinating chapter to the remarkable prehistoric landscape around Street House, where previous excavations have uncovered a number of important sites and monuments.
As part of our Tom Leonard Lecture Series, Steve will explore the results of this year's extensive digging and research, how the newly discovered cairn compares with earlier discoveries in the area, and what the finds may tell us about the people who created these monuments.
There will also be a look at some newly discovered Roman finds from Street House.
