Join us at Attollo HQ for a Professional Development Series session with Dr. Pedro Rivera, President of Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.
Dr. Rivera's career in education spans every level of the system. A Philadelphia native and first-generation college graduate, he spent 13 years in the School District of Philadelphia as a bilingual teacher, assistant principal, principal, and executive director before becoming Superintendent of the School District of Lancaster in 2008. Under his leadership, Lancaster saw improved graduation rates, stronger reading proficiency scores, and the development of a community schools model that provided students with everything from free meals to eyeglasses and dental care.
In 2014, the White House honored him as a Champion of Change for his work in urban education. A year later, Governor Tom Wolf appointed him Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, a role he held until 2020 before taking the helm at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. He is also a 2024-2025 Aspen Presidents Fellow and serves on the Pennsylvania State Board of Education as Chair of the Higher Education Committee.
In this session, Dr. Rivera will share what it means to lead with equity at the center, how education and opportunity are inseparable, and what young people need to understand about the systems that shape their lives.
