A personal journey through childhood suffering to wellbeing and wisdomAbout this Event
Larry's early life and training, first as a GP, then a psychiatrist, propelled him towards seeking and understanding supreme mental health, not only for himself but for everyone. Discovering a spiritual dimension to emotional growth and wellbeing was part of that highly fruitful endeavour, aspects of which he will share in his lecture. For Larry, wisdom is sacred knowledge, the knowledge of how to be and behave for the best, for all concerned, moment by moment, in any given situation. Wisdom ultimately involves a person feeling deeply a seamless connectedness with everyone else, nature, the planet and the cosmos, giving spontaneous rise to compassion, humility, awe and wonder. In this talk he will explore the lessons that come from his own journey towards wisdom through childhood suffering and trauma to happiness and well-being.
In 1999, Larry was a co-founder of the Spirituality and Psychiatry Special interest Group within the Royal College of Psychiatry. He is the author of numerous influential articles and , including The Psychology of Spirituality, Happiness—A 30-day Guide, and Love, Healing and Happiness: spiritual wisdom for secular times. His recent autobiography , short-listed for the Selfies Memoir Awards 2026, has been praised highly, including a detailed commendation from HH the Dalai Lama.
