Eric Duncan, better known to many as Dr. Dunks, is one of the defining figures of New York City’s underground disco, house, and dance music culture. A DJ, producer, remixer, label owner, and party curator, Duncan has spent more than three decades shaping dance floors around the world through his eclectic musical vision and deep-rooted connection to New York nightlife.
Originally from Los Angeles, Duncan developed an early passion for music through an upbringing surrounded by records and diverse musical influences. After relocating to New York in the mid-1990s, he became immersed in Manhattan’s downtown club scene, quickly establishing himself as a respected DJ known for adventurous sets that blended disco, house, funk, post-punk, Balearic sounds, and leftfield dance music.
Duncan first gained international recognition as one half of the influential DJ and production duo Rub-N-Tug alongside Thomas Bullock. Through legendary after-hours parties, warehouse events, and their celebrated Campfire series, Rub-N-Tug helped revive interest in disco and eclectic dance music during the early 2000s, becoming a major force in New York’s underground nightlife. Their unique approach to DJing and editing records earned them a devoted global following and opportunities to perform at clubs and festivals worldwide.
In 2006, Duncan joined forces with Liv Spencer to form Still Going, a production project that blended live instrumentation, disco grooves, and modern dance music sensibilities. Releases such as “Still Going Theme,” “On And On,” and “Spaghetti Circus” on DFA Records became underground classics and established the duo as innovators within contemporary dance music. The project’s signature sound drew acclaim from DJs, producers, and clubgoers alike, helping define the era’s nu-disco movement.
As Dr. Dunks, Duncan has become equally celebrated for his edits, remixes, and solo productions. His work spans collaborations with artists and producers across the electronic music spectrum, while his remixes have touched an impressive range of musicians including Grace Jones, LCD Soundsystem, Roxy Music, Beastie Boys, Bryan Ferry, Coldplay, Groove Armada, The Presets, Todd Terje, and many others.
Beyond production and performance, Duncan has operated influential edit labels including C.O.M.B.i. and Keep It Cheap, championing rare grooves, disco edits, and dance-floor discoveries that have become staples in DJ collections worldwide. His dedication to uncovering overlooked music and reimagining forgotten classics has made him one of the most respected selectors in the international dance community.
Whether performing in intimate clubs, major festivals, underground warehouse parties, or broadcasting through his radio projects, Eric Duncan continues to embody the spirit of adventurous DJ culture. Known for marathon sets, impeccable taste, and a refusal to be confined by genre, Dr. Dunks remains one of dance music’s most enduring and influential tastemakers, carrying the legacy of New York’s underground into the present day.
