Rick Maguire of Pile performs solo, bringing his raw intensity and idiosyncratic songwriting into a more intimate setting. Known for music that can move from hushed and intricately constructed to volatile and dissonant, Maguire’s songs resist easy resolution, balancing melody, abrasion, vulnerability, and unpredictability.
The duo of DoYeon Kim & Steve Long brings together Kim’s virtuosic and exploratory approach to the gayageum with Long’s expansive approach to improvisation and sound. Jolee Gordon will open the evening.
Moving between song, improvisation, experimentation, and the unexpected, the night is less about musical categories than about what can happen when distinct musical worlds share the same room.
