Don Ross was the first guitarist to win the US National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship twice, in 1988 and again in 1996, and in the decades since he has become one of the most recognizable voices on the acoustic instrument: born in Montreal to a Mi’kmaw mother and a Scottish immigrant father, based now in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and equally at home writing percussive solo pieces and orchestral scores. Julie Malía is his match. Raised in Swabia and teaching guitar at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, she is one of the most sought-after soloists on the European acoustic scene, as fluent in classical repertoire as in modern fingerstyle, and a singer and songwriter besides.
They have played together since the fall of 2023: more than a hundred concerts across Canada, the United States, Germany, the UK, Italy and Austria. What began as two soloists sharing a bill has become a single act, two guitars and two voices working the same set from the first note to the last.
Ross arrives with Songs That Found Me, released in April 2026, his nineteenth solo album and his first full vocal record since 2009, funded and released entirely independently. Malía brings Seagull, her 2024 set of originals and reinvented covers, nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
The Dream is the room this music asks for: nothing between the strings and the seats, every harmonic and fingerboard squeak part of the performance, close enough to watch the left hand work.
