"GIVE ME THE BALL”: Few athletes have transformed their sport, and the culture around it, as profoundly as Billie Jean King. Give Me the Ball! traces the extraordinary life of the tennis champion, activist, and cultural trailblazer whose relentless fight for equality helped reshape professional sports and expand opportunities for generations of women. Drawing on rare archival footage and candid interviews with King, along with reflections from figures including Serena Williams and Elton John, directors Liz Garbus and Elizabeth Wolff look beyond the headlines and historic victories to reveal the complex person behind the icon. From founding women’s professional tennis and taking on the spectacle of the “Battle of the Sexes” to navigating the pressures of fame, hidden relationships, eating disorders, and public scrutiny, King repeatedly placed the struggle for justice ahead of her own comfort.
Told with the same intelligence, charisma, and determination that defined its subject, Give Me the Ball! is an inspiring and deeply human portrait of a woman whose impact extends far beyond the tennis court. Electrifying, emotional, and fiercely relevant, the film reminds us how much can change when one person refuses to accept the status quo.
"Give Me The Ball" plays at 3:45 PM Saturday, October 10, and at 1:30 Saturday, October 24 at Pickford Film Center (1318 Bay St.).
