About this Event
Join NB Fishing Heritage Center and New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park for another free Dock-u-mentary film screening! On Friday, November 20, at 7:00pm, we will be screening the 2009 documentary Truth: Fishing Crisis or Government Management? In 1976 the United States Congress passed the Magnuson-Stevens Act to provide for the conservation and management of the American Fisheries. But that’s not quite how it turned out. Truth presents the true story of Jimmy Ruhle, an American fisherman struggling against the sea, the weather, tough economic times, and the federal government to protect his family, his home, his heritage, and his dignity. Runtime: 52 minutes
The film screening is a special tie-in with the Center’s ongoing exhibit, , which explores the complicated history and legacy of the 1976 Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.
