The Kroc School of Peace Studies presents an evening with musician and peacebuilder Daryl Davis.
About this Event

Join the Kroc School of Peace Studies for an evening with musician and peacebuilder Daryl Davis. For over 40 years, Davis has pursued one of the most unusual paths to reconciliation in modern memory, engaging leaders of the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist groups in sustained, patient conversation. His work has always emphasized the belief that dialogue, not division, is what ultimately breaks the cycle of fear, hatred, and violence.

This event is the latest installment of the Distinguished Lecture Series, hosted by the Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego. At the Kroc School, we're ending cycles of violence and shaping more peaceful and just societies through innovative teaching, ideas, and research.

Check-in begins at 5:30 PM. Theater seating is general admission and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please factor in 15 minutes to walk or take the tram from the West Parking Structure to the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice.

Daryl Davis has spent over four decades pursuing one of the most unusual paths to peacebuilding in modern memory. A professional blues and rock musician who has performed with legends including Chuck Berry, Davis is also known for a deeply personal mission: sitting down face to face with people who have dedicated themselves to hatred, and choosing to engage rather than avoid.

That mission began with a single conversation and has since taken him across the country, meeting with leaders and members of Klan, neo-Nazi, and Alt-Right groups in their homes and at their rallies. Through it, Davis has built genuine friendships across some of the widest divides imaginable, and in many cases, the people he has engaged have gone on to leave their movements entirely, handing him their robes and hoods as proof of changed hearts.

His story is the subject of the award-winning documentary Accidental Courtesy and his book Klan Destine Relationships, and his TEDx Talk has reached over 13 million viewers. Davis has received numerous honors for his work bridging divides, including the American Ethical Union's Elliott-Black Award, Carnegie Mellon's Carl Sagan Award and Prize, and the Search for Common Ground Award, and he is regularly sought for commentary by CNN, MSNBC, ABC News, and The Washington Post, among others.
