About this Event
A night of vibrant conversations about identity, cultural memory, and the things that shape the work we make.
We're bringing together a group of Latino creative directors, art directors, designers, artists and makers for conversations around what it means to build a creative life in Portland.
This isn’t a traditional “sit on stage and talk about the work” panel. The evening is designed to go, go, go — digging into the things we inherit, the things we borrow, the things we reject, and the ways our backgrounds inevitably make their way into what we create.
Expect conversations around belonging, family, taste, humor, culture, career... the push-and-pull between being seen as a Latino creative and simply being a creative person whose identity is one part of a much bigger whole.
And we’re making room for the messy parts too: the good, the bad, the cringe, the clichés. The things we love, and the things we’re still trying to figure out.
Hosted at Industry, the evening will also feature a collection of personal cultural artifacts contributed by participants + guests -- DJ Allen "The Ambassador" Thayer throughout the night -- and plenty of time to connect before and after the panels.
This event is open to everyone. Whether you identify as Latino, work in design, or simply want to be part of the conversation...you’re welcome.
And please bring a small "something" that connects you to home, family, culture or identity — we’ll be building a shared table of objects throughout the evening.
