About this Event

DISCOVERIES Series IV Showcases Future Stars Performing in Recital.

Lord Leighton welcomed leading musicians of the day to perform in his studio, and for musicians of the future who play in this beautiful venue, it is very special for them too.

The Leighton House DISCOVERIES Series returns with recitals which include four solo pianists, a classical guitarist, and superb chamber players.

There are seven recitals in total; three in autumn 2025, with a further four in spring/summer 2026. Each recital is of approximately one hour's duration without an interval, starting at 7.00pm. Seating is unallocated.

Pre concert lecture by Daniel Robbins, senior curator at 6.00pm

Programme:

R Schumann: Fugue Op.72 No. 1

Beethoven: Sonata Op.10 No.3

Malaysian pianist Magdalene Ho came to international attention after winning the 2023 Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Vevey, Switzerland. Formerly a pupil of Patsy Toh at the Purcell School, she currently studies with Dmitri Alexeev at the Royal College of Music as a Dasha Shenkman scholar. She is also generously sponsored by the Weir Award via the Keyboard Charitable Trust.

In summer 2024, she was featured by Jed Distler in International Piano Magazine’s series “One to Watch”. In November of that year, she won the International German Piano Award.

In August 2025, she received the Tabor Foundation Award granted to selected pianists participating in the Verbier Festival Academy, where she received masterclasses from Minsoo Sohn, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Rena Shereshevskaya. She is also grateful to have been enriched by support from the Lieven Foundation in Vienna, where this past summer she worked with Piotr Anderszewski, Elisso Virsaladze, Alon Goldstein and Andreas Staier.

In the 2025/26 season Magdalene Ho marks her recital debut at the Tonhalle Zürich as well as her first tour in the USA.
