Have you ever wondered what gives jazz its unmistakable sound or how singers find the freedom to improvise?Join singer and voice coach Aideen Ní Riada for a relaxed and enjoyable two-hour introduction to jazz singing.
Using classic jazz tunes, we’ll explore swing, syncopation, phrasing and the structure of a jazz standard. You’ll discover how to follow the accompaniment, listen for musical cues and interact with the music as part of the band.
We’ll also explore a simple 12-bar blues through playful call-and-response exercises, giving you an accessible introduction to improvisation and scat singing.
This workshop is for singers who would like to deepen their musical understanding, as well as anyone who loves jazz and is curious to learn how it works. You don’t need to read music or have previous jazz experience, just come ready to listen, sing and have fun!
