About this Event
Abstract
Digital technologies are reshaping the maritime industry by improving how safety, maintenance, navigation, and operational risks are managed. The growing use of real-time data, predictive maintenance systems, advanced navigation tools, and cyber-security measures provides opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce incidents, and support more informed decision-making. At the same time, increasing digitalisation introduces new challenges, including cyber risks, information management issues, and the need for continuous training and competence development among maritime personnel.
This presentation examines the opportunities and challenges of adopting digital technologies in maritime operations. It highlights the importance of integrating technological advancements with established safety practices, human expertise, and organisational culture. The discussion also considers the evolving regulatory landscape and the growing importance of cyber security and human factors in maintaining safe, resilient operations. As the industry continues to modernise, achieving the benefits of digitalisation depends on ensuring that technology supports effective decision-making, strengthens risk management, and complements the experience and professionalism of maritime personnel.
