About this Event

This event is being co-sponsored by the Gender Studies Network and the Department of International Development's Interrogating Development seminar series.

Join us for an exciting talk with Professor Rosalva Aída Hernández Castillo, a leading anthropologist from the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS). In this session, Professor Castillo will launch her new book, Digging for Hope: A Feminist Ethnography in the Land of Mass Grave

In the shadow of Mexico’s ongoing human rights crisis, Digging for Hope offers a profound look at resistance, care, and collective memory. Based on ten years of activist research alongside women-led search collectives, the author documents the courageous journey of mothers, sisters, and wives searching for their disappeared loved ones.

To debate this book, Luis Orlando Pérez Jiménez (UCL) and Dr. Melissa Chacón (University of York) will act as discussants. The event will be chaired by Professor Jelke Boesten (KCL)
