Have you ever woken up in a bat costume with no idea how you got home? Poor Dr Falke has. After a fancy dress ball, his so-called friend Eisenstein left him asleep in the park, and the next morning he had to walk home through town in broad daylight, still dressed as a bat, to the great amusement of everyone he passed.Falke has never quite forgiven him, and his revenge is the reason Die Fledermaus (The Bat) exists. It involves a lavish party, a great deal of champagne, a few unconvincing disguises and a husband who manages to flirt with his own wife without recognising her.
