About this Event
Step into Dickens’s Christmas London – and raise a glass where Dickens himself once drank.
Few writers have shaped the way we imagine Christmas more than Charles Dickens. On this atmospheric walk, discover the hidden City behind the Christmas cards and carols: atmospheric alleyways, ancient churchyards, bustling markets, cosy taverns and the places where Londoners gathered to eat, drink, gossip and celebrate.
We’ll follow in Dickens’s footsteps through the City, uncovering the real-life streets and characters that inspired his imagination, with a festive stop at Leadenhall Market, immortalised in A Christmas Carol.
Our journey ends at the historic George and Vulture, a favourite haunt of Dickens and his descendants. We will give you an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Pickwick Rooms, sharing the pub’s Dickens connections and memorabilia and the stories of the very rooms associated with The Pickwick Papers.
A Dickensian Christmas, with a hidden City, a historic tavern – and perhaps a Christmas drink where Dickens once had his own.
PLEASE NOTE: The upstairs rooms at the George and Vulture are reached via multiple flights of historic stairs.
