DeTour de Skunk is a fundraising bicycle ride through the foothills of the Blue Ridge that begins and ends at the parking area of the Albino Skunk Music Festival (4067 Jordan Rd, Greer, SC 29651) on Saturday October 3, 2026. Check in starts at 8:00 am, the ride starts at 9:00 am. Riders get some swag and a wristband good for entry into the festival afterwards until 2:00 pm, and a complimentary beverage from the Community Tap. A discounted Saturday entry ticket is available for $50 if you'd like to stay longer or return later in the day. Austin was seriously injured when hit by a car while cycling earlier this year and has had a lot of medical expenses related to that. Advance signup will be available on our website until a few days before the ride, and day-of sign-up will be available starting at 8:00 am (card, cash, or check ok). Please be there by 8:30 am, as the ride leaves at 9:00 am.
There are two routes of differing distance and difficulty. The short route is a beginner-friendly 17 miles (657 total feet of gain) along rolling country roads from the Skunk Farm to 1909 Campbell's Covered Bridge and back. The long route, which is 34 miles (1971 total feet of gain) and has a couple of more difficult climbs, includes the short route and also goes through Tigerville and past the 1820 Poinsett Bridge. There are parks at each bridge. We’ll have manned rest stops at the covered bridge and at a lot before the climb to the Poinsett Bridge. Note a slight route change we made in Spring due to road construction was well-liked and has been continued. It keeps riders on Jordan Road a bit longer outbound from the Skunk Farm.
We will have pre-race equipment checks and adjustments and an on-call SAG vehicle if a need arises on the routes from our local (Greer!) bike shop partner, Benchmark Bicycle Supply Co. We will have personnel with food and drink at each rest stop.
If you want to guarantee a shirt of the particular size, please order online and answer the check-out question as to sizing. Walk ups will not be guaranteed a shirt if we run out. If you'd like to decline the shirt to allow more money for donation to the recipient (which is the whole point anyway), there's an option for that too.
And as a reminder, we now have two private showers for campers and cyclists!
