Through examples of his own packaging work, Tyler will discuss the importance of storytelling in creating memorable, effective designs. He’ll also open real client projects in Adobe Illustrator, offering a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process, design decisions, and best practices for developing strong visual identities.

Logos and Such: Behind the Scenes and Outside the Artboard with Tyler Barnes
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the world of logo design with designer Tyler Barnes. Using real client projects in Adobe Illustrator, Tyler will walk through his creative process, from developing initial concepts to refining a final logo, while sharing practical tips and best practices for creating strong, memorable identities. The class will then step outside the artboard for a hands-on activity, where participants will design and create their own custom buttons to take home.

About the Featured Artist:
Tyler Barnes is a graphic designer, educator, and second-generation artist originally from Alexandria, Louisiana. With more than 15 years of experience in the design industry, Tyler has maintained his own practice, T.Barnes Graphics, since 2009 and continues to work professionally as a brand specialist. His work focuses on brand strategy, visual identity, and packaging, with a particular interest in how design and branding can shape communities and commerce. Tyler’s professional work has been recognized nationally and internationally, earning 20 American Advertising Federation awards, and has been featured in leading design publications, including For Print Only, Creative Quarterly, Graphic Design USA, and the annual LogoLounge book series. Tyler currently resides in Oxford, Mississippi, and is in his 10th year at the University of Mississippi teaching as an Associate Professor of Art | Graphic Design.
