About this Event
Design Time: Ludicrous Locations
Wednesday 30th October 2024, 11am to 4pm
For children aged 11 to 14 years.
The challenge, if you choose to accept it... to come up with some clever ideas and designs for building on a difficult site where no one has dared built before! Will you risk it?
In this creative architecture workshop, inspired by the exhibition Difficult Sites: Architecture Against the Odds, we will design, problem solve and create buildings in ludicrous and fantastical locations - how can we ensure that they will work and what will the designs look like? Will your ideas fit the brief or will it be back to the drawing board? You will be the engineer, architect and builder in this fun and inspiring workshop.
To get things started we will play an architecture inspired game to set some design boundaries and generate ideas as a group for our buildings, moving on to create 3D models of our individual designs each with a unique set of challenges. Participants will come away from the workshop with lots of learning around architecture, working to a design brief whilst also brushing up on 3D model making skills and techniques.
This creative architecture workshop for children aged 11 to 14 will be run by artist educator Katie Kennedy.
Katie Kennedy is a graphic designer and educator running her own design business alongside delivering architecture, art, printing and design workshops and projects at museums, galleries, festivals and schools around the country.
About the Workshop Series
Our Design Time (previously Design Day) workshops for ages 11-14 take architectural design a step further by providing context and knowledge of the built environment to spark creativity. Past workshops have focused on different architectural styles, small and large-scale construction methods, traditional and digital drawing techniques, architectural games and using software to design collaboratively in a shared space.
Based in London, mainly our HQ at 66 Portland Place, all participants must arrive by 11am. These workshops are led by professional educators and all materials are included in the ticket price, but lunch is not provided.
If you're under 18, tickets must be booked by a parent or guardian. Online booking in advance is essential and if we do not receive full registration information in advance of the event we cannot allow the participant to attend.
