About this Event
Marchant Asian Art Masterclass & Private Tour of Leighton House.
Kensington Church Street, London W8.
30th October at 11.30am starting at Marchant.
I am delighted the BADA Friends will be visiting BADA members Marchant. Marchant was founded in 1925 by Samuel Sydney Marchant (1897-1975) and Richard Marchant was Chairman of the BADA from 2005-2009 and today Samuel Marchant sits on the BADA Council, so the company has a long and celebrated history of its own but also of its involvement with the BADA as well and celebrates its hundredth anniversary in 2025.
The firm specialises in Imperial Chinese Ming and Qing porcelains, jades, cloisonné, pottery and works of art. Their stock is chosen for rarity, quality, condition, and provenance. The Friends will be visiting on the opening day of Asian Art in London www.asianartinlondon.com and will be viewing and learning more about their fascinating Ko-sometsuke exhibition with ‘Ko’ meaning ‘old’ and ‘sometsuke’ meaning ‘blue and white’ all the pieces in the exhibition were made during the Tianqi reign in China for export to Japan.
There will also be the chance to see the Blanc De Chine exhibition as well. After this visit guests can take the short walk to the opulent Leighton House for a private guided tour of the house.
