About this Event

Join us for a special AIGA Chicago Lecture with Vida Sačić. Vida will discuss her recent works and typographic research within the context of her contemporary art practice.
Designers operate at a fascinating intersection where art, technology, history, and culture converge. They navigate diverse contexts, shape culture, and define how we perceive the world.
Stemming from her background in graphic design and typography, Vida Sacic has established her artistic practice as profoundly influenced by the field of design. Working with historic printing equipment and moveable type, she conserves and uses the tools initially used to print design ephemera, redefining their purpose and highlighting their histories.
In her talk, Vida will share images of the historic equipment, metal and wood type, and printing processes that defined how we think about modern typography. She will reflect on her research in typographic history that inspired her works, particularly the development of her original typeface, Ms. Olga, inspired by the work of 20th-century Croatian typographer Olga Höcker.
The talk will offer an exclusive preview of her artwork, "Home Body Land," which will be presented at this year's Wayzgoose Conference at Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in November. The work consists of four large-scale prints, measuring 40 x 58 inches each, that will be on display as part of the Immigrant Printing in Chicago exhibit, opening at the Newberry Library in December.
