Uwch Ddarlithydd mewn Diogelwch Seiber & Chyfrifiadura
Cefndir y ddarlith
Mae’r ddarlith hon yn archwilio’r trawstoriad rhwng astroffiseg a Deallusrwydd Artiffisial (AI), yn benodol dysgu peiriant (ML). Mae sêr yn gweithredu fel ffosiliau serol sy’n cludo arwyddnodau cemegol sy’n datgelu sut wnaeth galaethau ffurfio ac esblygu dros filiynau o flynyddoedd. Fodd bynnag, mae modelu sêr a phoblogaethau serol, a dad-godio’r wybodaeth yma yn dasg gymhleth ac yn draddodiadol mae angen grym cyfrifiannol sylweddol. Bydd Adam yn trafod sut gall ML drawsnewid y broses yma. Drwy hyfforddi ML i ddarllen golau’r sêr, gall ymchwilwyr fodelu sêr a phoblogaethau serol yn llawer mwy effeithlon. Bydd Adam yn siarad am y ffaith nad dim ond modelau iaith mawr yw AI a sgwrsfotiau, ond gall fod yn beiriant hanfodol ar gyfer darganfyddiad gwyddonol.
Cefndir y siaradwr
Mae Adam yn Uwch Ddarlithydd mewn Diogelwch Seiber a Chyfrifiadura ym Mhrifysgol Wrecsam ac mae ganddo PhD mewn Astroffiseg. Mae ei ymchwil yn cyfuno gwyddor data, ML ac astroffiseg er mwyn datblygu modelau o sêr a phoblogaethau seryddol, gan ddefnyddio’r technegau hyn i ailadeiladu hanes ffurfiant galaethau.
Mae gyrfa academaidd Adam yn cynnwys penodiadau ôl-ddoethurol yn yr Universitat Politèchnica de Catalunya, yr Unsitutio de Astrofísica de Canarias a Phrifysgol Liverpool John Moores. Yn y rolau hyn, mae Adam wedi datblygu arbenigedd mewn modelu poblogaethau serol clasurol a serol a dulliau ML modern, gan gymhwyso’r dulliau yma i setiau data gwyddonol cymhleth, gyda ffocws cryf ar ddadansoddi a darganfod.
Dr Adam Knowles
Senior Lecturer in Cyber & Computing
About the lecture
This lecture explores the intersection of astrophysics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically machine learning (ML). Stars act as stellar fossils carrying chemical signatures that reveal how galaxies formed and evolved over billions of years. However, modelling stars and stellar populations, and decoding this information is a complex task and traditionally requires significant computational power. Adam will discuss how ML can transform this process. By training ML to read starlight, researchers can model stars and stellar populations much more efficiently. Adam will talk about how AI is not just large language models and chatbots, but it can be a vital engine for scientific discovery.
About the speaker
Adam is a Senior Lecturer in Cyber and Computing at Wrexham University, holding a PhD in Astrophysics. His research combines data science, ML and astrophysics to develop models of stars and stellar populations, using these techniques to reconstruct the formation histories of galaxies.
Adam’s academic career includes postdoctoral appointments at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, and Liverpool John Moores University. Across these roles, Adam has developed expertise in both classical stellar and stellar population modelling and modern ML approaches, applying these methods to complex scientific datasets with a strong focus on predictive analytics and data-driven discovery.
