PPB wants to change the dynamic between police & community. But who defines what that means? Hosted by PCCEP, an independent oversight body.
About this Event

Who Defines Community Policing?

Portlanders don’t often get the chance to sit down with the Mayor and Chief of Police in a conversation they didn’t organize, with an agenda they didn’t set.

This is one of those opportunities. The Portland Committee on Community-Engaged Policing (PCCEP) is bringing together community members and City leadership to discuss what we actually want from police in our City, where we are with police-community relations, and whether the Portland Police Bureau’s approach is helping deliver it.

Event Details

Who: Community members, Mayor Keith Wilson, Police Chief Bob Day, PCCEP, and other public safety leadership

When: November 17, 2026, 6:30-8:30 PM
Where: PCC Cascade Terrell Hall. Parking & food provided.

Hosted by: PCCEP, an independent community advisory committee focused on police reform.

What You Can Expect

This event has been planned by community members who want to center voices from the public, while making sure you have access to the leaders who shape the reality of our City.

We will hear from Mayor Wilson and Chief Day about what their visions are for policing and public safety. Then, PPB will share a brief presentation about how they engage with the public.

The majority of the event will be devoted to open conversation between community members and City leadership. Community is invited to comment on what the Mayor and PBB shared, ask questions, share experiences, and discuss what they want from policing in Portland.

Why Your Participation Matters

We hear the phrase “community policing” all the time when people describe their ideal vision for how police should operate. But what does it actually mean, and are we all working with the same definition?

Does it mean officers who know the neighborhoods they serve? Stronger relationships and trust? A police bureau that listens, adapts, and responds to the different needs of Portland’s communities?

A police bureau can’t claim to be community-centered without giving communities a meaningful role in defining what that means. Portland’s vision for community policing should come from its communities. Join us.
