Deep Night Presents Halloween at Hardess Studios with Degurutieni and Other Ghosts
Welcome. Here is the space between the seen and the unseen. Breathe in the dark. Breathe out the light. Let all doubt fade away. Quiet! Do not break the circle...
"Degurutieni introduced himself with the buzzy drone of a cheap keyboard which within moments, burst out into a cacophony of sound. I had no idea what he was doing or how he was doing it. It was like voodoo, black magic or something. He was summoning the dead. The argent souls of Cab Calloway, Captain Beefheart, Sid Vicious, Sinn Sisamouth, Eddie Cochran, William Burroughs, Paul McCartney and Lou Reed were all floating up in the rafters looking down on the stage. I could see them."
Alco Degurutieni was born in the Nishinari Ghetto of Osaka (Japan) at the end of the 1960s. Growing up he endured what was a rough time for the city. He saw street riots, the red lights of prostitution parlours and felt the constant presence of the yakuza mafia. Memories of youthful chaos may have been a catalyst for what Degurutieni identifies as symptoms of Peter Pan syndrome.
From a sandpit all strewn with electronic devices; Degurutieni creates harmony through juxtaposition, extracts melody from chaos and decadence from junk.
