About this Event

How did African objects end up in Western museums, and what does it mean to display them today? Join us for a screening of a film that takes on these questions, using the Penn Museum as a case study.

The film traces how African material culture came to be held in Western institutions and invites viewers to see these objects in a new context. Scholar and lead curator Tukufu Zuberi appears alongside African museum directors, curators, and contemporary artists from Africa and the Diaspora. Together they examine how these collections are displayed, who tells their stories, and what reconsidering them could look like.

Come ready to watch, reflect, and join the conversation.
