Declan Forde Quintet live at Donau115
Michaël Attias - Alto Saxophone · Tobias Delius - Tenor Saxophone/Clarinet · Declan Forde - Piano · James Banner - Double Bass · Dae Bryant - Drums
A second outing for this quintet at Donau115, following their debut here in September 2025, comprised of Berlin-based musicians from both sides of the Atlantic.
The group is led by Scottish pianist Forde, who's been a stalwart on the Berlin scene since 2014, working as a soloist and in small group settings. In recent years, Forde has performed with both local and international artists including Han Bennink, Tony Malaby and Bill McHenry. He will be bringing original music and choice compositions from the Jazz canon, drawing on his influences from Duke Ellington, Jaki Byard, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols, Cecil Taylor and beyond.
The rhythm section is filled out by the wonderful bassist James Banner and Harlem-born drummer Dan Bryant. Banner's current projects include Borage with Megan Jowett, the trio Nebbia/Banner/Andrzejewski: Presencia, and Different People with Lina Nyberg and Birgitta Flick, alongside an active solo double bass practice. He also works in post-production sound and scores music for films and documentaries. Bryant recently finished his studies in Basel, Switzerland, has been spending more time in Berlin over the last year, and is a welcome addition to the scene. He'll be bringing his own group, "Our Collective", to Donau115 on October 31st, 2026.
The horn section is comprised of two of the finest improvising musicians working in Berlin today. A celebrated bandleader and composer in his own right, Michaël Attias plays a key role in the New York jazz scene, working with Anthony Braxton, Paul Motian, Oliver Lake, Tony Malaby, Kris Davis and a host of others. Tobias Delius lifts any ensemble he's in with his enormous sound and infectious, joyous energy. He received the Berliner Jazz Preis in 2025 — modest recognition for the musical achievements he's made on the bandstand over the last few decades.
