If you are looking for a laid back place to meet new friends, share your love of spoken word, or just listen to some great poetry, please join us at Bobzbay Books (419 N. Main St. Bloomington, IL) on Saturday, December 12th from 4pm-5pm for our monthly Open Mic Poetry series! Details:
- Open Mic Poetry takes place in the Kid's Room and the environment is relaxed and welcoming to both new and experienced poets. There’s no stage and no actual microphone, so it's a great place for new poets, first-time readers, and those with stage fright to try their hand at reading in front of a group.
- We welcome readings of original poetry, favorite poems, short stories, spoken word, etc., but request that participants refrain from reciting any poems that degrade or ostracize any particular human (no homophobia, racism, bigotry, etc.) Additionally, please keep reading time under 10min to make sure all participants have a chance to read. If time allows, participants can read again once everyone has shared!
- We will have a small seating area (8-10 chairs) set up for readers and listeners, but attendees are also welcome to quietly mill about the shop while listening to the readings. (The Kid’s Room won’t be shoppable for the duration of Open Mic Poetry, but the rest of the shop will be open and accessible!)
- Participation is completely free and open to the public with no prior registration necessary. A sign-up sheet to determine the number of participants will be available in the Kid’s Room approximately 15min ahead of time.
- Children are welcome to attend and participate with adult supervision but Bobzbay Books cannot guarantee that readings will be suitable for all ages
This monthly event series takes place on select Saturdays from 4pm - 5pm throughout the year. If you can’t make it this month, we hope to see you next time!
