This NightLites concert explores the refined sound world of French impressionism through music by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Conducted by Molly Turner, the program opens with Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, a landmark work known for its fluid lines and dreamlike atmosphere. Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin follows, offering clarity, elegance, and rhythmic vitality through its modern reimagining of Baroque dance forms. Debussy’s Petite Suite, presented in Henri Büsser’s orchestration, brings a sense of charm and gentle motion, while Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite closes the evening with richly colored storytelling drawn from childhood fairy tales. Together, these works create a cohesive and immersive concert that highlights orchestral color, texture, and expressive nuance in the intimate setting of the Ogle Center.Due to popular demand, the beloved NightLites Series expands to five Friday evening performances at the Ogle Center at Indiana University Southeast, pairing iconic masterworks in vibrant, thoughtfully curated programs. Designed as a dynamic, one night experience, NightLites offers a high impact concert format that is perfect for longtime listeners and those discovering classical music for the first time.
