Saddle up, riders! Four days of open desert highways, American iron, salt flats, and pure two-wheel freedom await. Here’s the exciting rundown of your meticulously planned adventure, complete with the key stops, legendary eateries, and must-see points of interest.
Day 1 – Thursday, November 26: Phoenix to Pahrump (~342 miles)
Kick off at QuikTrip on N 7th St, then roll northwest through classic Arizona desert. We'll meet at 7:45 AM and KSU at 8:00!
• Shell in Wickenburg – Quick refuel in this historic Western town.
• Chevron in Wikieup – Remote desert fuel stop under big skies.
• Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (Kingman) – Hearty country comfort food (chicken & dumplings, meatloaf, biscuits) in that familiar rocking-chair atmosphere. Perfect group lunch after the morning miles. And yes, I called; they are open on Thanksgiving day!
• Route 66 Drive-Thru Shield (Kingman) – Iconic photo op! Ride (or roll) right through the giant neon Route 66 shield near the Powerhouse Visitor Center for the ultimate group shot.
• Continue through Henderson for a final refuel, then arrive at Saddle West Hotel Casino RV Resort in Pahrump.
• Evening: Dig into the Saddle West Buffet (Silver Spur Café) – casual casino buffet with solid American fare, perfect for refueling the crew after a long first day.
Day 2 – Friday, November 27: Death Valley Exploration (~190 miles)
Depart Saddle West and dive deep into the otherworldly landscape of Death Valley National Park.
• Crowbar Café & Saloon (Shoshone, CA) – Classic vintage Western café and saloon right on the edge of the park. Famous for its French fries, burgers, breakfast plates, and full bar in a true desert-outpost setting. A legendary rider stop.
• Badwater Basin – Stand (or park) at the lowest point in North America (−282 feet). Vast blinding-white salt flats under the desert sun.
• Artists Palette – One-way scenic drive through surreal, multi-colored mineral hills that look painted by an artist.
• Quick fuel at Furnace Creek, then a sweet break at the Ice Cream Parlor at the Ranch at Death Valley.
• Zabriskie Point – Dramatic eroded badlands overlook, one of the most photographed spots in the park.
• Dante’s View – High-elevation panoramic overlook of the entire valley floor. Cooler temps and jaw-dropping vistas.
• Return to Saddle West for another round at the buffet and rest before the next leg.
Day 3 – Saturday, November 28: Pahrump to Laughlin (~239 miles)
Leave the Death Valley base and head toward the Colorado River with some scenic detours.
• Morning fuel and a solid start at Living Free Café (Pahrump) – Friendly nonprofit café known for excellent breakfast sandwiches, burritos, coffee, and frappes. Great food with a positive community mission.
• Circumnavigate Mount Charleston – Take the scenic loop around this dramatic “sky island.” Fun fact: Charleston Peak tops out at 11,916 feet—the highest point in southern Nevada and Clark County, and the most topographically prominent peak in the entire state. Rising nearly two miles above the surrounding Mojave Desert, it creates a true alpine oasis with cooler temperatures (often 20°+ cooler than the valley), ancient bristlecone pines (some nearly 3,000 years old), and unique species found nowhere else, including the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly.
• Ride by Creech Air Force Base (near Indian Springs) – You’ll pass this highly secure installation on the way. Fun fact: Creech is the U.S. Air Force’s primary hub for remotely piloted aircraft (drones). It is home to the 432nd Wing (“the Hunters”) and the global MQ-9 Reaper enterprise. From windowless ground-control stations here, Air Force pilots and sensor operators fly real-world intelligence, surveillance, and strike missions around the world—making it one of the most strategically important (and discreet) bases in the country.
• Red Rock Canyon Overlook – Quick scenic pull-off with striking red sandstone cliffs just outside Las Vegas.
• Bonnie & Clyde Death Car (Primm) – See the actual bullet-riddled 1934 Ford V8 in which the infamous outlaw couple met their end. A wild piece of American history on display.
• Ride past the solar photovoltaic power plant near Primm. Fun fact: Desert Stateline uses about 3.2 million solar panels and can generate around 250 megawatts — enough electricity for tens of thousands of homes.
• Ride past the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System with its three tall towers. Fun fact: About 173,500 sun-tracking mirrors focus sunlight onto boilers atop 459-foot towers, making steam to generate electricity. On a bright day the towers can look like glowing desert lighthouses from the road.
• Fuel in Searchlight, then roll into Aquarius Casino Resort in Laughlin right on the Colorado River.
• Dinner at Outback Steakhouse (inside the hotel) – Juicy steaks, the famous Bloomin’ Onion, and Aussie hospitality after a full day of riding.
Day 4 – Sunday, November 29: Laughlin to Phoenix (~225 miles)
Final day of the ride with a scenic southern swing.
• Morning fuel in Laughlin, then head south.
• Boat House Grill (Lake Havasu City) – Excellent lunch stop with fresh American fare, seafood, burgers, and a relaxed island vibe near the water. Great patio energy for the group.
• Continue through Parker and Salome with strategic refuels.
• Final stop at the Shell in Wickenburg for goodbyes and one last group photo before the short hop back to Phoenix.
This route balances perfect daily miles, reliable fuel stops, memorable meals, and the absolute best scenery the Mojave and Sonoran deserts have to offer. Death Valley’s stark beauty, Route 66 nostalgia, red rocks, outlaw history, and river views—plus great company—make this a Thanksgiving ride to remember.
Ride safe, stay hydrated, and let’s just ride!
